UNIVERSITY & SURROUNDING COMMUNITIES

Explore Your Housing Options

If you're only planning to stay in Honolulu for a few years, University housing close to the UHM campus may be a practical fit. It can work well for visiting faculty, short-term staff, or students who don’t plan to put down roots on O’ahu.

Starting July 1, 2025, monthly rent for faculty and staff apartments will range from $793 to $2,571, depending on the size. Parking is not included. These units keep your upfront costs low and eliminate the need to deal with repairs or maintenance.

Dorm rooms for students range from $5,073 to $18,871 for the full 2025–2026 academic year. Rates depend on the number of roommates and whether the bathroom is shared or communal.

However...

University housing isn’t guaranteed, and demand often exceeds availability. Beyond that, if you're looking for ways to manage the cost of living, or thinking about settling here more permanently, buying may be worth exploring.

Options on O‘ahu include:

    •    Single-family homes

    •    Condos

    •    Townhomes

    •    Multi-family properties

Homeownership brings benefits that renting doesn’t. You can take in roommates and become the person earning rental income, gain tax advantages, and, most importantly, build equity. If you’ve decided to make Hawai’i your permanent home and lifestyle, that equity can become real financial stability.

If you want to talk through the possibilities, we’re available.
